Subscribed (if any): No
10. SWOC analysis
of the Department:
a.
Strength: The department has dynamic, well qualified faculty members who
are apt and prompt in providing quality education to young minds. The teachers
having attended various workshops/programmes in latest ICT technologies are
competent in catering to the needs of an increasingly digital educational
scenario.
b.
Weakness: Our greatest weakness at present is the inability to function
as a full-fledged department offering an Honours degree in English owing to the
absence of an Arts/Humanities stream in the college.
c.
Opportunity: Infrastructural facilities like the availability of smart
classrooms in the college make lesson delivery very effective. Students have
the opportunity to make use of audio-visual aids so as to enhance their
competence in communicative English which remains the primary focus of the
current courses offered by the department.
d.
Challenge: The department faces the challenge of delivering to students,
many of whom do not have the preliminary bases in English. In addition, a
sizeable number of students are from various indigenous communities of the area
and lack an understanding of even Assamese. The teachers, therefore, have to meet
the challenge of coming up with effective strategies of communicating with the
students so as to improve their knowledge of and fluency in English.
11. Future Plan
of The Department: The department hopes to open degree courses in the
future so as to better contribute to the human resource development of the
area. In this regard, we have proposed to relevant authorities the urgent need
of opening an Arts stream in the college. The department strives to
continuously upgrade itself and leave no stone unturned in transforming today's
students into responsible citizens of the future.
